Case Study: Custom Pickling Jars for a US Client​​

Client Background​​

A US-based special food producers, who focusing on artisan pickle products, demanded to increase their brand appearance through unique packaging. They targeted premium retailers and farmers' markets, requiring custom pickling jars that combine functionality with aesthetic appeal. His existing packaging lacked uniqueness and failed to align his brand with environmentally friendly values. To separate themselves in a competitive market, he contacted Minghang Glass to develop an analogous solution addressing both design and stability while ensuring product conservation.

Had to face challenges

There were important issues in the prototype: the lids failed to seal properly (pose a risk of malfunction), torn glass jars during heat processing (a significant step in pickles), and the embossed brand name was very unconscious (losing brand visibility). These flaws threatened the launch, as American consumers demand reliable, visually consistent pickle jars for protected foods.

Root Cause Analysis​

Our team identified problems: lid seals were weak due to a thin rubber gasket (0.5mm) that couldn’t withstand pressure; jars cracked because the glass thickness (2mm) was insufficient for heat shock; faint embossing resulted from shallow mold engraving (0.1mm) that didn’t transfer clearly to glass.​

Our Solution​

To fix the pickling jars, we upgraded to a 1mm thick food-grade rubber gasket for lids, testing 50 samples for airtightness. We increased glass thickness to 3mm and annealed jars to improve heat resistance. We deepened mold engraving to 0.3mm, ensuring the brand name was crisp and visible.​

Result​

The final pickling jars met all requirements: secure seals, heat-resistant glass, and clear branding. The co-branded line saw a 35% sell-through rate in the first month, with the French client noting, "Minghang’s pickling jars perfectly balance functionality and brand appeal—critical for our US launch."
