Client Background
An artisanal honey brand from New Zealand, known for its raw manuka and clover honey, wanted to introduce a single-serve gift range. Prerequisite, they require custom 4 oz honey jars: clear glass honey jar with a hexagon shape with a hexagon shape, bamboo lids, and a hand-drawn stencil floral branded on the surface. They came to Minghang to design 4 oz honey jars that demonstrate a “natural, premium” identity.
Our Challenge
Prototypes had critical flaws: the hexagonal jar’s sharp edges chipped easily during handling, bamboo lids absorbed honey moisture and warped, and the printed logo smudged when wiped. These issues threatened the gift range’s appeal—customers expect durability and elegance from premium honey packaging.

Root Cause Analysis
Our team identified the problems: sharp jar edges lacked rounding (only 1mm radius) for impact resistance; bamboo lids had no water-resistant coating, leading to warping; the logo smudged because the ink wasn’t food-safe or water-repellent, failing to bond with glass.
Our Solution
To fix the 4 oz honey jars, we rounded jar edges to a 3mm radius and thickened the glass at corners for durability. We treated bamboo lids with food-safe beeswax to repel moisture and added a silicone gasket for a tight seal. For the logo, we used water-resistant, edible ink and cured with UV light for protection against smudging, testing 50pcs samples.

The brand’s founder noted, “Minghang nailed our 4 oz honey jars—they make our honey feel like a luxury gift.”
