Client Background

A UK importer of honey into the country was looking for reliable honey jar wholesaler that can provide high-quality packaging for the various honey brands. The importer required consistent supply, packaging for food applications, and custom design for both supermarket and gift markets.

Client custom designed 500ml round glass honey jars, with wide mouth, embossed honey comb on shoulder, and a gold metal twist-off lid. Our export background, ability to create custom molds, and quality control of bulk production for international orders were key factors in our selection of Yeboda.

Challenge

When a warehouse distributes the products, they are prone to breakage.Products in the warehouse tend to break often during distribution.

The importer had experience of the high damage rate when re-distributing jars of honey to local clients in the UK, particularly following customs clearance in the UK which resulted in secondary transit damage.

Inconsistent Lid Fit

A few jars from their previous supplier were slightly mismatched with the lids, with lids that would sometimes not seal or fit too tightly.

Cause Analysis

These were identified by our technical team through examining both the jar samples and shipping conditions:

• Glass thickness variability at the shoulder and base of the package put the product at risk of breaking during pallet handling.
• The variations in diameter and thread pitch in the necks made it difficult to secure the lids in place and seal them.

Solution

Enhanced Jar Design

Being a seasoned honey jar wholesaler, Yeboda refined and optimized its mold design to enhance impact resistance by reinforcing the shoulder transition and thickening the base edge.

Precision Neck Finish Control

We re-designed the neck moulds and the serialised the use of thread gauges to maintain uniformity of lid compatibility on each production batch.

Upgraded Export Packaging

Motion during UK domestic distribution was minimised with the addition of customized corrugated cartons that have sturdier dividers and anti-vibration inserts.

Result

Breakage rate reduced more than 65% and the compatibility with lids was removed. UK importer extended supply of more after-sales complaint-free local honey brands.
